Overview
One of the main problems Enfield Chase has at the moment is that its design makes it natural to speed. Despite being a residential road it feels like a road designed to quickly get you around. It should be redesigned to serve as a street by:
- Removing one grass verge to widen the path to include better mobility
- Removing central hatching and replace with island with low shrubs
- Moving street lights to centre of the road on island
- Removing present traffic calming and replace with pedestrian priority to slow cars – particularly where Enfield Chase dissects the Walkway
- Where the road is narrower remove grass verge (which is presently damaged by parked cars) and use increased road width to include a centre island
- Ensuring it is clear there is no parking on Enfield Chase and prosecute those who park on the paths.
This will give Enfield Chase a much more residential feel rather than a fast road.
Rectory Lane to Lidl
- Left Hand Side – Remove Grass verge from Rectory Lane to end of double yellow lines
- Add Crossing at end of double yellow lines. Wide crossing for all non-vehicle types.
- Right Hand Side – Remove grass verge completely and widen path to include mobility path as well as footpath.
- Add necessary signage to indicate path is for all methods of non-vehicle mobility
- Mobility path to be marked partitioned with white line, green tarmac and cycle / disability scooter symbols.
- Right-Hand side keep grass verge and mark crossing as cycle route (outside Lidl pedestrian entrance / exit)
- Widen crossing at Lidl and make level with path also constructed from a different material or a different colour
- At an appropriate distance from the bus stop towards Providence Drive the centre road hatching should be replaced by a central reservation with low shrubs. It should allow cars to turn right out of Providence Drive and the continue after the junction.
- Right Hand Side – Remove grass verge completely and widen path to include mobility path as well as footpath.
- Mobility path to be marked partitioned with white line, green tarmac and cycle / disability scooter symbols.
Lidl Entrance to Providence Drive
Providence Drive to Hunters Place
- Immediately after Providence Drive centre hatching is replaced with central reseravation
- Street lights moved to central reservation
- Central reservation has low shrubery
- Right Hand Side – Remove grass verge completely and widen path to include mobility path as well as footpath. Proper markings.
- Immediately after Hunters Place centre hatching is replaced with central reseravation
- Street lights moved to central reservation
- Central reservation has low shrubery
- Right Hand Side – Remove grass verge completely and widen path to include mobility path as well as footpath. Proper markings.
Hunters Place to Traffic Calming
Traffic calming to walkway
- TRAFFIC CALMING: Remove present setup. It is dangerous as cars heading away from Rectory Lane accelerate to get through it before they are held up by oncoming cars
- Raise road to pavement level with different road surface (block pavers for example) from end of present calming to beyond walkway.
- Add wide crossing at Walkway and make it clear that pedestrians have right-of-way
walkway to Scaleen and Eglinton
- Right-Hand side remove verge and replace with mobility path
- Left-hand side remove verge and widen road
- Central reservation added of block pavers slightly raised to create rumble strip effect
- Place street lighting in centre
- Clear no parking signs on road
- At Scarleen Close put a decent crossing in place. Don’t put a pedestrian crossing but raise road with paving blocks. and create an improved crossing for all types of mobility vehicles
- Carry on same design all the way to Eglinton Avenue
Eglinton to Guisborough Shopping
- Same design as Scaleen to Eglinton
- At Guisborough Shopping a zebra crossing – raised road to path height
Guisborough Shopping to Traffic Calming II
- Same design as Scaleen to Eglinton
- Remove traffic calming and add crossing
Traffic calming ii to end of Enfield Chase
- Same design as Scaleen to Eglinton
